When you're ready to sign up you can get your training plans when you register for the race. After you register you'll receive a special link and password to your training plan.

Run or Walk for a Life!

This year we have a special guest at the event - Hoa - an orphaned Hawaiian Monkmonk seal photo Seal.

This will be Hoa's "coming out party" at the facility and a very rare opportunity to see one of the world's most endangered species. There are less than 1100 Monk Seals in the world. Hoa and all his friends really need our help!

Our goal is to have every runner show up and "run for a seal". That means we want 1100 runners and walkers to sign up and get a special sticker that shows they care!

Each runner will receive a special commemorative seal shaped sticker they can put on thier bib number, car, bulletin board or wherever their fancy strikes them.

T-Shirt guaranteed to all pre-registered runners with a special graphic featuring a Monk Seal in the trademark style of our previous event gaphics.

It's Mother's Day and we'll have a special treat for every Mom at the race...what a great way to start the day...by helping out an orphaned animal. running seals

 

Bring the whole family and help raise funds and support for the Marine Research and Conservation Program at UC Santa Cruz Institute of Marine Sciences, located at Long Marine Laboratory. Your contributions will help support the expansion and construction of a state of the art facility totally dedicated to the study and support of the marine animals and their environment. This center will provide an invaluable resource for addressing larger conservation issues of wild marine animals by directly translating cutting edge research into the preservation of marine ecosystems.

The Race:

A very scenic run or walk from Long Marine Lab out to West Cliff Drive in Santa Cruz and along the ocean front. This is a flat, fast, out and back run course along the paved surfaces and walking path for the entire distance. Generous aid stations stocked with water and sport drink will be provided at two locations along the course (1 for 5K, 2 for 10K).

Race Information

Parking

You will not be able to park inside the Long Marine Lab facility. All parking for the event will be at the UCSC parking lot located at 2300 Delaware Street, on the right side of the street before you get to the main gate for Long Marine Lab. There will be a sign and volunteers directing you into the lot. From this lot you will walk about a half mile into the area in front of the Seymour Center. This is where you will find race registration and the start and finish areas. Be sure to leave yourself plenty of time to walk to the start. Think of it as a good warm-up for the race.

Packet Pickup

Saturday, May 8 at Running Revolution in Santa Cruz, 1664-B Soquel Drive, Santa Cruz, CA 95065 from 1:00pm until 4:00pm.

Sunday, May 9 at Race Registration in front of the Seymour Center and Whale Skeleton at Long Marine Lab.

Registration and packet pickup will open at 7:30am on race morning. There will be race day registration for your friends and family who want to come along but can’t quite seem to make up their minds yet!

Timing Chips

You will receive a timing chip if you are registered in the 5k or 10K. There will not be chips for the Kids 1K fun Run. This chip must be worn on your ankle to receive a time for the race. It doesn’t matter which ankle. Don’t put the chip in your pocket or around your wrist or it won’t read accurately.

After you complete the race/walk and enter the finish line area someone will ask you for your chip. These are not disposable chips like in other races…we recycle them for other events. That’s why they are on removeable ankle straps. Please make sure you return your chip at the finish line area.

Sweat Check Bags

We will have plastic bags that you can place your jackets and sweats in before the start of the race. Bring your own tote bag or duffel bag if you prefer. We will have tags to put on your bag with name and numbers so it won't get lost. It will be nice and dry and warm for you at the end. Don’t leave valuables in these bags. If you have something really valuable that you can’t take with you on the run leave it home. If you forget see one of the race staff and we can put it aside for you in a safe place.  

Schedule

This is the race start schedule. If there are any changes they will be posted at the start area on race morning.

Kids 1K – 8:45 am

10K Run/Walk – 9:00 am

5K Run/Walk – 9:15 am

10:00 am to Noon – Seymour Marine Discovery Center is open to race participants and their families.

Food and Goodies

Each participant will receive a T-Shirt with the event’s signature running marine animals. These will be ready for pickup up in the finishing area after the race. For goodies we’ll have snacks, fruit, water, and some special treats from Flipper Fanny’s Cookies.

Awards

There will be awards for the top three males and females in each event , 5K and 10K. These participants will receive a finishers medal and a photo with the marine animal of their choice. There will be age group award certificates for the top three male and female winners in the following age groups: 14 and Under, 15 – 19, 20 – 29, 30 – 39, 40 – 49, 50 – 59, 60 – 69, 70 – 79 

Course Close Time

Course will close at 11:00 am. Walkers must remember to keep to the right and not impede progress of runners.

REFUND POLICY: THERE ARE NO REFUNDS FOR THIS EVENT. EVENT CREDIT WILL BE ISSUED ACCORDING TO THE GUIDELINES LISTED BELOW IF NOTIFIED PRIOR TO THE EVENT. THERE WILL BE NO EVENT CREDITS ISSUED AFTER THE EVENT.

EVENT CREDIT: IF YOU WISH TO WITHDRAW FROM THE EVENT, AN EVENT CREDIT TO ANOTHER FINISH LINE PRODUCTIONS EVENT OF 50% OF THE ENTRY FEE CHARGES WILL BE ISSUED IF NOTIFIED IN WRITING (EMAIL TO info@finishlineproduction.com OR BY FAX AT 831-338-2117) FOR: 1. ANY REASON, AND IF RECEIVED MORE THAN 30 DAYS PRIOR TO THE START OF THE EVENT WEEKEND (OPENING OF REGISTRATION). 2. IF YOU HAVE A MEDICAL REASON AND YOU ALSO SEND A LETTER FROM YOUR DOCTOR ADVISING US THAT YOU CAN NOT COMPETE WE MUST RECEIVE WRITTEN NOTICE MORE THAN 14 DAYS PRIOR TO THE EVENT.

ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATION FOR EVENT CREDIT: IF YOU HAVE AN INJURY OR IF A MEMBER OF YOUR IMMEDIATE FAMILY HAS A DEATH OR MEDICAL EMERGENCY WITH LESS THAN 14 DAYS PRIOR TO THE START OF THE EVENT YOU WILL NEED TO NOTIFY US IN WRITING AT LEAST 72 HOURS BEFORE THE START OF THE EVENT, AND THE RACE DIRECTOR WILL CONSIDER THE REQUEST ON AN INDIVIDUAL BASIS FOR A CREDIT.

NO CREDITS WILL BE ISSUED WITH LESS THAN 72 HOURS PRIOR NOTICE IN WRITING.

ENTRY FEES ARE NOT TRANSFERABLE TO ANOTHER PERSON (USAT CONSIDERS THIS FRAUD). IF YOU SELL OR GIVE YOUR RACE SLOT AWAY, BOTH YOU AND THE PERSON USING YOUR RACE SLOT ARE SUBJECT TO A TWO-YEAR SUSPENSION FROM RACING AT ANY USAT RACE. AN UNAUTHORIZED RACER JEOPARDIZES OUR LIABILITY INSURANCE AND CAN CHANGE THE PLACEMENT STATUS OF OTHER RACERS WHO HAVE WORKED HARD TO FINISH THE RACE.
